I’m a wedding and family photographer based in Martha's Vineyard, with experience shooting both digitally and on film throughout the U.S. and abroad. I’m originally from central Mexico, but I’ve been living in the United States for over twenty years, first in the El Paso area, and now spending most of my time on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. I'm the proud father of a beautiful little girl, and I also love to garden.
My approach to photography is to capture moments as they really are. I believe there is something powerful about telling a story as it unfolds, without staging it or manufacturing a moment. Every story is unique and deserves to be told in a truly authentic way.
Traveling ignited my passion for photography. In foreign countries, new situations presented themselves everyday, sometimes every minute. There were times when I would marvel at how lucky I was to be in the perfect place, with a particular person, at just the right moment. This is why I started to take photographs, to try to capture these moments in all their complexity before they were gone. I learned to be patient, observant, and discerning about when to take a photograph and when to just watch, to just be present.
Then my daughter was born. And I was instantly in love. In the beginning, like every other parent, I wanted to photograph her smiling and doing all those cute things babies do. But soon I wanted to photograph more than just her beautiful smile. I wanted to portray her childhood and my experience as a parent without a filter. I wanted to document real family life in an original and spontaneous way, while at the same time being creative with the use of light and composition.
These are just some of the life experiences I bring to every photography project, whether I’m shooting a wedding, working with couples, or doing a Family Documentary session. For me, it’s all about documenting the real moments - subtle, exciting, emotional, sweet, and everything in between - before they’re gone. To me, they are all magical moments, these moments that make up our lives, and they deserve to be captured, to be remembered, to be shared.
